| NewsAlum Shares Many Sigma Nu Memories Thank you to John Fricks ’87 for participating in this Q&A How do you stay connected with your brothers as an alumnus? I still see 10-15 guys on an annual or better basis. One key is that I live in San Luis (and have since 1998) so when brothers make their pilgrimages to visit Cal Poly and taste the SLO life, they stop by and see me. Quite a few brothers have kids now at Poly so that brings them to town. I have enjoyed the official fraternity alumni events; however, far and away the best thing that I have got going is the biannual "guys' weekend." It all started about 20 years ago when a small group of us would travel to get together to play basketball (principally, Dennis Klum, Emil Boncich ‘87, Sid Anderson ‘88, and Ron Williams ‘87) at different locations along the coast. Then, when many of us got married, we opted for weekend-long bachelor parties here in SLO, in Vegas, or, say, river-rafting on the Kern River. Now, we get together without the excuse of a wedding -- mostly in San Luis; but we had an epic weekend a few years ago at Kenny Crother's ’89 house in Yuba City. We just had the latest Guys' Weekend in San Luis in July 2011. Click on the headline to read the full Q&A All News |
